Implementation Reporting Recommendations for School-Based Mindfulness Programs

Abstract Objectives Research on school-based mindfulness programs ( SBMPs ) indicates promising, albeit mixed, effects. However, there has been a lack of consistency and completeness in implementation reporting, frustrating efforts to draw causal inferences about the elements that influence program outcomes. To address these issues, we crafted conceptual framework with an accompanying set key terms for SBMP guide development flexible practical reporting recommendations studies . Methods develop recommendations, drew insights from science prevention literature, explored standards across behavioral fields, examined reviews s had focus. Results The Implementation Framework SBMP-IF is organized by four broad categories (i.e., program, participants, context, implementation), which inform recommendations. nudge researchers toward more complete consistent school contextual factors, participant characteristics responsiveness, teacher training/competence. They also encourage explicitly identify incorporate into their theories change measurement strategies Hypothesized and/or Validated Core Components as well Support System Finally, urge define operationalize consider child when implementing studying Conclusions offered are novel field represent bold effort strengthen evidence base help discern whom work best under conditions.
